A locally native deciduous shrub, with handsome foliage, silvery green above, rusty brown undersides. Also rusty brown scales on current year’s stems. Small red fruits were prepared for eating in several ways by First Nations peoples. The berries are also enjoyed by birds. The roots fix nitrogen. Grows in sun and open woodlands, prefers drainage, drought tolerant. Grows to 6 - 8 feet tall.
