This is a beautiful all year broad leaf evergreen. The small leaves are dark glossy green, with the new growth being reddish. The plant has clusters of small pale pink urn shaped flowers in spring, followed by berries turning purple late summer. The berries are tasty. It is best in part shade, with some moisture, and acidic soil. It is a native plant west of the cascades.
